Now, as I've said before in emails with you, I definitely don't think that it's Christian (or, for others, just plain wise!) to help everyone indiscriminately. I honestly don't think anyone would fault you for denying help to a thief.

Those emergency packages sound great. I know a Salvation Army major who keeps similar packages on hand all the time. Based on what he once said, consider adding a disposable razor in the package - apparently, for a great many people, the psychological effect of being clean-shaven (whether face or legs) is tremendous.

I don't consider myself a prepper, but if something happened, we'd be in much better shape than many, many of our neighbors. And, yes, we would gladly share with them. Even though your questions were aimed at the "if disaster would strike" scenario, I would encourage everyone to really get to know their neighbors now. We've been blessed to be a blessing and I don't think that blessing should wait until a tragedy. Good discussion:-).

I know that I have often heard folks say they would not help the folks around them but I have to say, that right or wrongly, I believe that I need a good solid working relationship with the select folks I have and continue to build working relationships in my neck of the woods with.I truly believe that be it a slow decline or hard and fast, being able to barter and trade, skills, work, produce, tools etc within the area will be critical, we can put away enough to do X and X for our family, this is true but we can't ever get to the point that we won't need help.Let me give a real life example that happened just in the past bit, Someone had a water leak in their pipes, but they don't have the funds to hire it done, but a good old fashioned work bee, where we all loaned hand tools, strong backs and a new 80 foot by 5 foot deep hand dug water line went in.On the flip side, we found a issue that needs to be repaired on our own farm, and the truth is we didn't have a real clue how to fix it, sure we had idea's but a quick look from a local who builds houses and we have a clear path, a phone call down the road and a second local builder who also has his own saw mill, and we have custom done wood for the job, a call down the road the other way and we have the tools we need.yes, we will need to pay for materals at cost, and we will feed everyone, but plans are in the works for a day's work bee to get it done..And the gentleman that cut the wood, he is having a apple cider press work bee that he wants help with.. and the gentleman that loaned out the equipment, he wants access to a special spot of land to be able to do his fall hunting on..Give and take.. can be a very good thing.. the main thing is that everyone gave willingly of their time, no one wanted a return but when asked for what they could use help with, everyone had something they "found" of value..That's the key, of value.. it does not need to be money, it can be the value of friendship, it can be the value of a favor given and returned..
